Mindful leadership: developing service design in government

I wrote this article for the MDF program in 2017; a lot has changed in Government since. The project asked students to consider leadership in context to our practices. For this assignment, I took inspiration from associations that had been percolating between study and yoga to frame teaching service design and reflexive practice as a craft trade.

The piece deepened my understanding of how both practices related and were connected to each other. It proposes leadership in Australia’s government sector take a leaf out of Iyengar Yoga’s staged teaching model, to iteratively develop practitioners through levels. The article also considered the journey required for Australia’s government to support designers to establish, stabilise and mature their craft practice.
